Beach

When I was young I had a t-shirt {I'm pretty sure it had a duck on it} and it read, "Life's A Beach". The shirt drove me crazy because I had no idea what "Life's A Beach" meant. I'm sure I asked for it's meaning...but whatever the explanation I don't think I was satisfied. Of course much later I realized "Life's A Beach" was simply a play on a much more grown-up saying.
{This story does have a point...sort of}

Anyway, today I took the boys to the beach. Such a beautiful day...blue sky...blue water...and lots of blue eyes filled with joy. As I stretched out on the blanket...curled up next to Arlo...I thought, "Yep...that duck was right, "Life's A Beach".xo

Guest Starring: Miles

It's Thursday...{ha! I remembered the day of the week. I must not be as tired as I thought.}
And Thursday translates to Miles-day.
At 9am, our little friend came over and immediately the adventures began:
A wagon ride to an island on the river where we fished while eating goldfish crackers...followed by a popcorn picnic at home. And lastly, we spent the remainder of the evening marvelling at Arlo...because today he opened his eyes for a really long time. Just like that...today he decided to wake up. And although he stared at us with wide awake eyes, we couldn't help but to think he was simply dreamy!

7 Weeks!

Happy 7 Weeks Arlo!

How did we celebrate lucky #7?
Well...since you asked:

We started out by watching your brother rock it out at a Bike Rodeo!We then went for a walk to check in on Mama Mirabelle. She's still sitting on those eggs...{reason #501 why I would never ever want to be a swan! I won't bore you with the other 500 reasons....}On our way home we watched a garbage truck....and finally, we wandered around in a meadow...excited for the day when you too will join Hugh in all of his wanderings..xo

Park Tour '09

Before having children, I never knew the importance of a good park. Luckily we have a lot of them here...and even luckier we have one right next to us.But which one do you prefer Hugh?
Is it the one with a foam floor or a sand floor?Is it the one with the open twirly slide or the monster slide? {what is a monster slide anyway?}Or perhaps it's the one we call our own?"Actually, I like them all."
Always the diplomat...that's our Hugh.

What do you think Arlo? Just open your eyes for 5 seconds...take a look around and let us know!

Star Chart

David and I decided to introduce a Star Chart to Hugh. We thought it sounded like a wonderful tool to track his behaviour and such. However...there was one teensy problem. We were not entirely sure how the whole charting thing works. So before we launched our idea to Hugh we had to agree on a chart plan:
What kind of star stickers would we use? {this was my main concern...such an important one, yes?}
How can we make the chart really, really, really pretty? {again, yours truly.}
What does Hugh have to do to earn a sticker? {rub mummy's feet...cook dinner....}

This afternoon, we presented the Star Chart to Hugh. He didn't quite get it. Mostly because my explanation was way too winded and I really started to babble once I thought he was on to me that I didn't really know what I was talking about. Albeit his confusion and my lousy presentation, he perked right up when he heard, "star stickers"!

So we started simple: Tidy {up after yourself} Arlo {be gentle to him}And then ended with the impossibles:
Listening {to us}
and Potty {as in go IN the potty}.

By the end of the day, Hugh earned 3 out of 4 stars. I was worried he might be disappointed that he didn't receive a perfect 4 star rating...but he said,
"Of course I got 3 stars, I'm 3!"{clearly we need to fine tune a few details on the chart...like making it pretty...and getting the right day of the week correct!}
